The most basic question about online traffic generation concerns optimizing for free search, or buying advertising. For our purposes, we’ll only be talking about PPC advertising, or pay per click. This form of advertising is extremely popular, and has been for a long time because it offers fast traffic and lots of it. The concept is simple – you pay for every click that your ad gets, or else you pay nothing.
However, beyond that, the marketing material you have in place still needs to do its job of converting that traffic to sales. Actually, there’s a lot to it, and it’s not as simplistic as it may seem. It has become fairly involved for many reasons, and some of those have to do with the high competition. But of course there are very many businesses that are killing it and making tremendous money with it. As with all forms of major reward, there are major risks involved, as well. The prerequisite for success is knowledge, research, caution, and common sense. We’ll be sharing some PPC strategies and tips to help get you on your way. Regardless of whether you intend to target a niche such as pay per click advertising or virtually any other niche, it’s vital that you remember the following tips.
You’ll need to research variations on your main keyword, or phrases. Be sure to choose the best matching phrase categories for your keywords, in addition to doing thorough keyword research. You’ll be using categories such as broad, exact, and phrase match keywords – make sure you know the difference. Broad match keywords mean that when someone uses search terms that contain your keywords, but they’re different variations. For exact match keywords, your ads will display when searchers type in the exact phrase that matches yours. You can specify searches in which your ads will not be shown, and that’s called negative keyword selection. Don’t lose track of how your ads are performing, but keep watching how they are doing over time. If you don’t watch and analyze your campaigns, you won’t be able to tell which ones are performing well and which aren’t, and you will end up losing money. If you keep track of what’s going on, however, you can focus on the profitable campaigns and quit the losing ones.
This is only common sense, but many people fail to follow it. You should preferably check your PPC campaigns daily. At the very least, make sure you review them several times per week. If perhaps you intend to target a niche such as best affiliate programs or any other niche, it’s vital that you remember the following tips.
You can also bid on keywords that are cheap as long as they are well targeted. Don’t feel that you always have to have the highest bid for every keyword. Ads that appear a bit lower down on the page can still perform well for you. Most search engine traffic is on the first two pages, so if you want to get clicks, don’t let your ad fall lower than page 2. You can get lots of traffic with pay per click, but proceed with caution; make your daily budget small at first.
This way you can drop campaigns that don’t work and invest more heavily into the good ones.
